Wesley W. Weisser, 81 of Cottage Grove, MN, passed away unexpectedly on Jan. 1, 2017. Born the second of four children to Jacob & Grace (Landreth) in Wishek, North Dakota. Wes grew up in Zeeland, North Dakota graduating from high school in 1953. He enlisted in the Army and served his country for two years. After discharge from the military he moved to Minneapolis where he met Bernice Gapinski at a dance. They married on June 21, 1958 at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Murry, Wisconsin near Bernice's hometown of Bruce. They moved to Oakdale, Minnesota where they lived until 1968 when they moved to Cottage Grove and continued raising their family. Wes enjoyed woodworking, trips to the casino, gardening, dancing but most importantly he was a family man who adored his grandchildren. He spent hours and hours in his wood shop making them trucks, rocking horses, tables and chairs. Wes was also a member at the Polish American Club in St. Paul.
Preceded in death by parents Jacob and Grace; sister Marveline Schumacher; in-laws, Stanley and Sophie Gapinski; brother-in-law Henry Gapinski. Survived by his loving wife of 58 years Bernice; daughters Kim (Paul) Oakes, Julie (Ed) Peterson, Amy (Brian) Rumpca and Jill (Brett) Mahnke. Wonderful grandfather to Amanda (Nick) Brinkman, Samantha (Justin Van Eck) Oakes, Cassandra (Dane) Clark, Tony Rumpca, Brandon (Alison) Rumpca, Alyssa Peterson and Jenna Mahnke. Great grandfather to Madison, Savannah and Morgan; siblings Geri (Russ) Geerdes, Jack (Sheila) and numerous other family and friends. Funeral service 11 am, Thursday, Jan. 5th at The Church of St. Rita (8694 80th St. S., Cottage Grove) with visitation starting at 10 am. Interment Cottage Grove Cemetery.
