Wayne Clauson

Clauson, Wayne age 86 of Cottage Grove died Sunday, May 11, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family.

Funeral service will be 6:00 pm Thursday, May 15, 2014 at Newport Lutheran Church, 900 – 15th St, Newport, MN with visitation starting at 4:00 pm until time of service. Interment will be at the Ten Mile Lake Lutheran Cemetery in Dalton, MN.

Wayne was born July 6, 1927 on the family farm near Ashby, Minnesota, the son of Morris and Gyda (Hoff) Clauson. He attended school in Fergus Falls and graduated from the Crookston Agricultural College in 1945. Wayne served in the U. S. Navy as a Fireman First Class from 1946-1947 aboard the USS Shangri-La, and in the Naval Reserve until 1952. On September 27, 1949 he was united in marriage to Marilyn Delores Blowers. They lived in Newport where Wayne volunteered as a Captain with the Newport Fire Dept until 1965, when they moved to Cottage Grove. He worked as a Regional Sales Manager for a food brokerage until his retirement in the mid 1990's. Wayne was a member of the Osman Shrine Legion of Honor; the St. Paul Park Masonic Lodge #118; the St. Paul Park American Legion Post #0098 and the Dalton "Shoot and Miss" Club. He enjoyed a good laugh, hunting and fishing, and time spent with family at the cabin on Gull Lake.

Wayne is the beloved Father of Linda Clauson (Bill) Lyons and Steve Clauson; brother of Myrna (Gene) Hanson and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by Marilyn, his wife of 60 years, and his parents.
