Shirley Trebesch

Shirley Trebesch, age 70 of Inver Grove Heights, formerly of Cottage Grove, passed away November 24, 2016 at home surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral service will be 11:00 am, Tuesday, November 29, 2016 with visitation starting at 9:00 am at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 7070 Bovey Ave., Inver Grove Heights. Interment will be in the Newport Cemetery, Newport.

Shirley Anne Trebesch was born September 15, 1946 in Cokato, Minnesota to Clyde and Jean Schmieg, the 3rd of 9 children. She grew up in St. Paul and graduated from the Mechanic Arts High School in 1964. Shirley was married to Darwin Trebesch June 27, 1964 in St. Paul at Faith Lutheran Church and the couple moved to Cologne, MN for a short time before returning to St. Paul. She enjoyed the next several years raising her daughters and being involved in their school activities.

Started working at Central Lutheran Elementary School where she worked in the kitchen and teachers aid. She developed a love for teaching and went on to receive her degree in Elementary Education from Concordia College. She taught at Central Lutheran and Rose of Sharon for several years. Shirley was employed at Thompson Reuters where she was a proofreader and did order fulfillments for over 20 years. She enjoyed watching tennis, going on cruises and reading books.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Jean Schmieg and sisters Diane and Pamela. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Darwin; World's Greatest Mom to Rene Foss, Rita Tresbesch and Roxanne Cleary (Nana's "My Michael"); two grandchildren, Joe and Megan Foss; siblings, Sharon (Richard) Irwin, Patricia (Patrick) Mickelsen, Gary (Joan) Schmieg, Gordon Schmieg, Kathy (Col. Jake) Shetka, Beverly (Charles Love) Schmieg and many loving nieces and nephews.
