Shirley Nelson

Shirley Mae Meissner Nelson, age 79 of Cottage Grove, passed away on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at St. Joseph's Hospital in St. Paul.

A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, June 18, 6pm at Presbyterian Homes (Norris Square), 8200 Hadley Ave. S., Cottage Grove.

Our Mother was one of the most amazing woman we have ever known. She was instrumental in the lives of so many people in the community. The loving care she provided to her family, charities, schools, neighbors, students and anyone down on their luck proved she was truly a servant of the Lord. Our mother always looked at the positive side of things and did not judge, "after all no one is perfect." She always gave of herself. Family always came first. She was a great Mother and great friend. In preparing for her celebration of life the memories and stories have been many. She taught us how to love unconditionally, be strong, independent, compassionate, kind, giving and to remember "God is with you always."

She is preceded in death by her husband Raymond P. Nelson and grandson Scott C. Meissner. Shirley is survived by her loving children: Cyndi, Cathy, Tom, Sharon, Sandy, Nancy, Mary; step-children, sister Judy, 10 grandchildren & 9 great grandchildren.
