Shirley Heck

Shirley (Gross) Heck, age 88 passed away peacefully on April 28, 2018.

Memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday May 12, 2018 at Kok Funeral Home, 7676 80th Street S., Cottage Grove, MN with gathering for friends and family one hour prior.  Interment Ft. Snelling.

Shirley Philomena (Gross) Heck was born October 9, 1929 in Hoven, South Dakota to Emil and Gertrude Gross.  She was among twelve children.  Shirley married Earl Heck in 1946 and lived in Gettysburg, South Dakota for several years.  They moved to Napoleon, North Dakota where they raised their five children and she worked as a cashier at the Super Valu in town.  For the past 18 years she has made Cottage Grove, Minnesota her home.  She will be remembered for her quick wit, crafting ability and painting skills.  She enjoyed crossword puzzles and was a ruthless scrabble games.  With five children, she taught herself to be an excellent seamstress and was the heart and soul behind the family Christmas celebrations.

She is preceded in death by husband Earl, her parents, 5 of her siblings and son-in-law Fred Weispfenning.  She is survived by her children DiAnne (Jerry Fuller), Bonnie Weispfenning, Rhonda (Chris Dirck), Rochelle (Donald Alf), Bradley Heck (Colleen), 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 2 step great-grandchildren, and many other relatives.
