80 of Cottage Grove, MN formerly of New Mexico & Missouri died peacefully on June 27, 2016 at Norris Square in Cottage Grove, MN. Shirley was born on September 14, 1935 to Floyd & Evelyn (Anderson) Godel in Warren, MN. She graduated from Warren High School in 1953 and attended Northwestern Hospital School of Nursing in Minneapolis. After graduation she worked for Northwestern Hospital then moved to Colorado with a friend and met Jim Cockrell while he was stationed there during his time in the Air Force. They married in 1959 and moved to Missouri for a number of years and then settled in New Mexico in 1974 living there until Jim died in 2012. Shirley had numerous nursing jobs including 39 years as a school nurse in Farmington, New Mexico for Aimas Northeast Elementary, McCormack Elementary and McKinley Elementary. She enjoyed playing bridge, and fondly remembers her fishing trips to Canada.
Shirley is survived by siblings Joyce (Morris) Lindstrom of St. Anthony, MN, Duane Godel of Moorhead, MN, Myrna (Fred) Super of Woodbury; numerous nieces & nephews and extended family in New Mexico and Missouri. She is preceded in death by husband Jim and her parents.
