Sabina Phillips

Sabina Phillips, age 66 of Cottage Grove, passed away unexpectedly on April 17, 2018.

Memorial service will be 1:00 pm Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Kok Funeral Home, 7676-80th Street S., Cottage Grove with gathering starting at 11 am until the time of service.  Interment Lakeside Cemetery, Hastings.

Sabina Cerbito Phillips was born in the Philippines on December 30, 1951 on a farm that grew things like tobacco and sugar cane.  She moved to the United States in 1972 and despite knowing next to no English, supported herself and her children. Her second husband Michael Phillips, and the love of her life of 25 years, passed away in 2002.  Sabina worked for the Smead Manufacturing Company in Hastings for over 34 years as a machine operator.  She has been a guiding light for her family, and a fighter for her entire life.  She had a great sense of humor and was an excellent cook (famous for her egg rolls especially).  She loved visiting Florida every winter and had been planning a trip to Door County on the Fourth of July.  She has touched the lives of so many other people.

Sabina is survived by her children George (Grace Marie) Wilson IV, Alma (Chris) Flom, Jason (Jill) Phillips; grandchildren Sabina, Nessa, Michael and Matthew; her “husband-in-training” Peter Bierma as well as many close friends, loving in-laws, nieces, nephews and extended family members.  She is preceded by her husband Michael Phillips; grandson George Kenneth Wilson V; parents Almigio and Esperanza Dula.
