Ronald F. Urban, age 84 of Cottage Grove passed peacefully surrounded by his loving family on July 6, 2017.
Memorial Service will be 11:30 am, Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at Kok Funeral Home, 7676 - 80th Street S. Cottage Grove with visitation one hour prior. Interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the D.A.V. (Disabled American Veteran’s) or The Wounded Warrior Project.
Ronald Francis Urban was born October 1, 1932 in St. Paul, Minnesota and grew up in the Como Area and entered active duty in the US Army in 1950 and served with the 7th Division, 1st Battalion, 32nd Regiment, Company D. He was shot and survived being captured during the Chosin Reservoir Battle, which was one of the deadliest encounter of the Korean War. He was married to Clara Young on May 12, 1951 and Ron was honorably discharged in 1955.
Ron worked as a salesman for a few years and owned the Parkway Bar for several years in the 1970’s. Ron worked for the US Post Office at the MSP Airport for 14 years before he retired. He enjoyed hunting, trap shooting, bowling, fishing and travelling with his beloved Clara. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Disabled American Veterans and the “Chosin Few”.
Ron joins in heaven his wife, Clara; son, Ronald Jr., granddaughter, Kerri Braun. Survived by daughter Vickie (Rick) Braun; grandchildren, Michael (Jen) Dorniden, Kim Dorniden, Michelle (Doug) Ferlaak, Kelly Braun; great grandchildren, Brandon & Jeramy Moyer, Evan & Blake Dorniden, Seth & Kolton Ferlaak, and Connor Anderson; sister Jean McNeill.
