Ronald D. “Sparky” Sparks, Sr., 71 of Cottage Grove passed away peacefully at his home on Monday morning, February 9, 2009 following a lengthy illness.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 16, 2009 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Cottage Grove with the Reverend Mike Hanson, officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Elmhurst Cemetery, St. Paul. Friends may call from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Kok Funeral Home in Cottage Grove.
Ronald D. Sparks was born April 19, 1937 in Saint Paul, Minnesota, the son of Arthur and Mildred (Antonson) Sparks. He grew up in St. Paul and graduated from Harding High School. Following school he enlisted in the United States Navy. He was united in marriage to Marlene S. Holtzkamp on February 14, 1956. The couple made their home in St. Paul where he worked as a Boiler Engineer for the city until his retirement in 1998. In 1983, the couple moved to Cottage Grove. Ronald enjoyed the outdoors and working with his hands doing carpentry, painting, working in the yard, maintaining vehicles and fishing.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Marlene of Cottage Grove, the dedicated father of; Shannon DeJonker of Cold Springs, Robin (Bud)

(Jenny) Sparks, Jr. of Cottage Grove, Rodney (Kathy) Sparks of Aitkin, the loving grandfather of 16 and great-grandfather of 5 and loyal to his two dogs, Bunny & Bear. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Grace, one brother and two sisters.
