Rollie Dohrn Sr.

Rollie H. Dohrn Sr., age 83 of St. Paul Park, passed away unexpectedly on October 24, 2017 at United Hospital in St. Paul.

Memorial service will be 11 am Saturday, November 4, 2017 at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, 1000 Portland Ave., St. Paul Park. Visitation will be Friday, November 3, 2017 from 4-7 pm at Kok Funeral Home, 1201 Portland Ave., St. Paul Park and also one hour prior to the service at church.  Interment with military honors at Newport Cemetery, Newport.

Rollie Herman Dohrn Sr. was born December 23, 1933 in Chester Township, Minnesota to Emil and Anna (Dankers) Dohrn.  He was the fourth of 10 children.  He grew up in Oak Center Minnesota on the family farm.  He also lived with his uncle, Dick Dankers for a time to help his uncle on the farm.  Rollie joined the army in 1954 with active service until 1956 and reserve service until 1962.  He was stationed in Germany.  He returned to farming after his service and farmed until 1961.  Rollie was united in marriage to Patricia Lichtblau on June 30, 1962 in Lake City.  When Pat and Rollie married, they lived in Lake City, Minnesota, where he delivered milk.  He also went to night school in St. Paul to study welding during this time.  They moved to Front Street, St. Paul in 1966.  And then in 1969, they moved to St. Paul Park, Minnesota, where they lived until Pat died in 2014, when he moved to Norris Square in Cottage Grove, Minnesota.  Rollie worked many jobs while they raised their family.  He primarily worked as a welder and handyman, but, was well known for working several jobs at a time to support his family. He enjoyed spending time in his garage with his neighbors.  Rollie survived a brain aneurysm in 1985 defying the odds until he succumbed to a stomach aneurysm on October 24, 2017.

Rollie was well known for his enjoyment of life.  He was known by his grandchildren, nephews, and nieces for “causing trouble”.  He lived his life with a smile and a laugh.  He greatest joy was spending time with his family.  In his later years, Rollie loved to play bingo, cards and going to coffee with his friends.  He spent his final hour’s playing cards and enjoying his life.

Rollie is preceded in death by his wife Patricia, his parents, sisters Lorraine Ebling and Marvel Dohrn; brother-in-law Lloyd Eggenberger and sister-in-laws Marian Dohrn and Adelle Volner; his nephews, Terry Dohrn and William Volner.

Rollie is survived by his daughter Kristi (John) Duncan; son Rollie Jr.; grandchildren, Mick, Liz, Nathan, Ted and Kayla; brothers Donald, Vernon (Tina) and Richard (Bonnie); sisters Luella Eggenberger, Esther (Louie) Prigge, Laverna Dohrn and Jane Thompson; and his brothers-in-law, Don Ebling, Ray Volner and Ralph (Carol) Lichtblau, sister-in-law, Millie (Jim) Auge and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
