Roderic McKenzie

Roderic "Rod" McKenzie, age 53 of Cottage Grove, passed away peacefully and surrounded with love at his home, after a heroic 6-month battle with cancer.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am Thursday, September 22, 2016 at The Church of St. Rita, 8694 80th Street S., Cottage Grove. The visitation also be held at the church on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 from 4-8 pm and also one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment Cottage Grove Cemetery.

Rod was carefree, spontaneous and had a great sense of humor. Having a high level of integrity, he was someone you could always depend on. He had the courage to stand up for what was right. He was kind and generous. Rod loved the outdoors, especially the Colorado mountains. He enjoyed camping, hiking, horseback riding, canoeing, and golfing. He loved westerns – movies, books, and artwork– and dreamed of being a cowboy. Disney World was Rod's favorite travel destination. He shared many special times there with his family. Rod enjoyed working with his hands, especially carpentry, landscaping, and gardening. Rod had several occupations throughout his life, but most enjoyed being a carpenter and contractor. Rod's faith in and love for God was extraordinary, and his greatest earthly love was his family. No matter what he was doing, if he was with his family, he was happy.

Rod is survived by his wife Victoria, children Alexander, Benjamin, and Madelyn; mother Violet; siblings Michelle (Tim), Geoff (Leslie), Keeley, Sheila (John), and Barry (Ginny). He is preceded in death by his father William and sister Dede.
