Robert Matykiewicz

Robert Matykiewicz Sr., age 68 of Cottage Grove, formerly of Mora and Shoreview, died May 26, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am, Thursday, May 29, 2014 at Church of St. Rita, 8694-80th Street, Cottage Grove. Visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday 4:00-8:00 pm and also for one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will be at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery with military honors provided.

Robert John Matykiewicz was born January 27, 1946 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Joseph and Margaret (O'Conner) Matykiewicz. In his younger years, Robert played a variety of sports which he enjoyed. He attended school at DeLaSalle and Edison High School prior to entering active duty in the US Army in 1965. Following his discharge from the military, Robert was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth Ennis on August 17, 1968 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lino Lakes. They made their home in Shoreview while Robert was employed by the Master Bread Company as a delivery driver. They moved to Mora where he later retired. The past few years, Robert and Mary lived in Cottage Grove when his health required him to be close to the VA Hospital.

He loved to read, watch sports of all kinds, NASCAR, eating Reeses peanut butter cups and going for walks with Wally. He was a regular visitor to fast food restaurants, and loved celebrating the holidays. He adored his children and grandchildren and enjoyed following them in their various activities.

Robert is survived by his wife Mary of 46 years; children Tina (Jim) Jones, Robert Jr (Jenny) Matykiewicz and 3 grandchildren, Brandon, Hannah and Alison; brothers, Joseph (Elaine) and Ronald (Maureen); many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Chuck (Barb) Ennis, Tom (Jenny) Ennis, Mike (Sue) Ennis, Denise Olson and Pam (Greg) Matheson. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Casket bearers will be Aaron Matheson, Tim Matykiewicz, Jeff Matykiewicz, Nathan Ennis, Greg Ennis, Christopher Chenal, Jared Belland and Michael Ennis.
