Robert Berger

Robert E. Berger, age 84, of Backus, formerly of Newport, Minnesota died unexpectedly at home on February 20, 2017. Robert was born July 26, 1932 in Henderson, Minnesota, the oldest of nine children.

He is survived by loving wife of 63 years, Eleanor; daughters, Vivian (Steve) Dellwo and Barbara (Bob) Garnes; and son, Ronald Berger; grandchildren, Allen (Brenda) LeCuyer, Jaclyn (Kirk) Mueller, Mike Leisering, Chris Leisering, Marci (Chris Hall) Garnes, and Jessica Garnes; great grandchildren, Joshua and Layla LeCuyer, Stella and Vincent Mueller, Emily Talcott, Lucas Leisering, Joseph Meyers, Cordelia and Ginevie Garnes; great-great grandchildren, Alex and Ivan Reyes Talcott;
siblings, Gilbert Berger, Ray (Sandy) Berger, Edward (Barb) Berger, Donald Berger, and Irene Dauffenbach (Jay Huffman); sister-in-law, Bonnie Berger; brother-in-law, Mert Morphew. Preceded in death by daughter, Diane; parents, Gilbert and Irene Berger; brothers, Jerry and William; sister, Shirley; sister-in-law, Lil Berger; niece, Becki Berger Halpen; nephew, Andrew Berger; and many aunts and uncles.

Bob served in the Air Force. He worked at Armour Meat Company, retiring as a machinist at the Portland, Oregon plant after 34 years. His other work included IBM, delivering trucks for McNeilus and school bus driver.

Bob was a dedicated family man whose children and grandchildren brought him much joy and smiles. He enjoyed outdoor activities that included camping, boating, snowmobiling, and motorcycling, including many trips to Sturgis, South Dakota. He was a member of the Mason's.
