Richard L. Kampmeyer, age 79 of Woodbury, formerly of Cottage Grove, passed away May 20, 2017.
Funeral service will be 11:00 am, Thursday, May 25, 2017 at Rose of Sharon Lutheran Church, 6875 Jamaica Ave. S., Cottage Grove with visitation one hour prior. Interment in the Cottage Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Rose of Sharon Lutheran Church.
Richard Lee Kampmeyer was born April 8, 1938 in Sibley, Iowa to George and Luella (Arends) Kampmeyer. His father worked for the railroad so the family moved shortly after to Currie, Minnesota and Dick later graduated from Tracy High School in 1956. He attended Mankato Commercial College to study accounting. Dick served in the US Navy from 1959-1963 and attended Mankato State University where he graduated in 1965 with a bachelor's degree. Dick met Judith Ann Besser and they were married on January 8, 1966. They lived in Cottage Grove for 23 years until moving to Woodbury in 1989.
He was an avid golfer and enjoyed reading and bowling. Dick and Judy enjoyed travelling to numerous places in the USA and Europe. After they returned from their trips, Dick proudly presented the experience of their travels to various "armchair traveling" groups in the area. He was active in the Woodbury Choir for over 30 years. Dick was an active member of Rose of Sharon where he served in several positions including church choir and various boards.
Dick is survived by his wife of 51 years Judy; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Dennis (Judy) Besser; niece and nephew Robert (Sherrie) Besser; great-niece and nephew Amanda and Jordan; cousin Marlene Van Drie as well as other family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Robert.
