Raymond Morris

Raymond R. Morris, age 89 of Cottage Grove, passed away peacefully on Mar. 3, 2015 under hospice care.

Funeral will be 11 am, Mon., Mar. 9, 2015 with visitation held on Sun., Mar 8, 2015 from 2-5 pm and also one hour prior to the service, all at Kok Funeral Home, 7676 – 80th St. S., Cottage Grove. Interment Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.

Raymond Robert Morris was born October 23, 1925 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to John and Mary Morris. He grew up in Minneapolis and from the age of 5 years old, Ray began pursuing his love of aviation. He enjoyed designing, creating and flying model airplanes. After high school he attended the Airframe and Power Plant School prior to entering active duty with the US Army. He served as a petroleum engineer on the pipeline project following the Omaha Beach invasion. In 1951 he was married to Patricia McCormick. The couple resided in Minneapolis and had two daughters. Ray was employed at Northwest Air Lines as a mechanic and flight engineer for 38 years and thoroughly enjoyed his job. On October 13, 1962 he was married to Myrna Coles Potter in Minneapolis and made their home in Cottage Grove. Ray continued his love of flight and was also an avid motorcyclist, a Harley man through and through. He and Myrna enjoyed winter vacations in Florida and regular summer motorcycle trips to the Rocky Mountains. Ray had a sweet tooth and loved his dessert goodies.

Raymond is survived by his children, Maggie (Dan) Larson, Mary (Leon) Daniels and Rob Morris; those he considered sons, Scott Potter and Steve (Sandi) Potter; 9 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sister Marcella Pecchia. He is preceded in death by his wife Myrna; parents, John and Mary.

Casketbearers will be Rob Morris, Steve and Scott Potter, Dan Larson, Michael Daniels, Michael Pecchia.
