Philip Owusu, age 43 of Cottage Grove, made a peaceful transition to be with the Lord on December 23, 2019.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 am, Friday, January 24, 2020 at The Church of St. Rita, 8694 – 80th Street S., Cottage Grove, with visitation from 9 am until the time of service.
Philip was born on August 31st, 1976 in Accra, Ghana to Mrs. Agatha Okwana and the late Bernard Owusu, the third of six siblings. Philip completed his basic primary and elementary education in Accra, Ghana and secondary education at Laboni Secondary School, passing the West African Sec. School Certificate exams in 1996. During Philip’s school days in Ghana he excelled in Soccer and the great skills and talent he had for soccer made him part of the school soccer team. Philip completed Takoradi Polytechnic University in 1999, earning the Higher National Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
In 2000 Philip met the love of his life Bernice Owusu at Akim Bosusu during his national service and Bernice was a nursing student on orientation. They tied the knot on June 18, 2009 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Ghana.
In 2002, Philip was employed by Ghana Telecom and quickly became project manager at the headquarters in Accra. He also had opportunity to work for Vodafone Ghana as a project manager until he relocated permanently to the United States in 2011.
In the US, Philip attended Metropolitan State University and attained a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science in 2017. In August 2018, he also attained certification in Full Stack Web Development at the University of Minnesota. Philip obtained several certifications in information and communication, project management, network planning and design training (Huawei University), and fiber optic technician (Torque Academy). He also obtained certification in Unix and Oracle Training and Alcatel E10 operation and maintenance at the Ghana Telecom University College.
Philip worked at St. John's Hospital in Maplewood and Presbyterian Homes and Services until his untimely death on Monday, December 23, 2019 at the age of 43.
Philip was a devoted Christian who worshiped with the family at the Church of St. Rita in Cottage Grove and St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Woodbury. Philip was selfless and compassionate to all diverse individuals that knew him. Philip is survived by his wife Bernice, mother Agatha Okwana and 5 siblings, Bernard Owusu, Augustine Owusu, Theresa Owusu, Patricia Owusu and Lucy Owusu; God-son Jeremiah, nieces and nephews, and a host of family members and friends.
