Penelope "Penny" Quinn

Penelope “Penny” J. Quinn, age 78, of Cottage Grove, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on July 20, 2019.

She was born June 1, 1941. She graduated from Huron High School, Huron SD.  Her hobbies then were playing violin in the school orchestra and playing with her cat, Suzie. She graduated with a Bachelor of Nursing from SDSU and moved to St Paul, MN in 1963. Her first job was at Miller Hospital. This is where she met the love of her life T Michael Quinn. They were united in marriage on August 26, 1967.

Penny spent the rest of her 30 year nursing career working at the St Paul Public Health Department as a Public Health Nurse.  She was proud of her work in the refugee immunization clinic and doing home visits for those who needed their TB medications. She retired in August 1994.

Penny enjoyed singing in the church choir, playing the tambourine, attending many Cursillo retreats and working on cross stitch and long stitch projects.  She will always be remembered for her award winning jams and jellies.

Mike and Penny also loved to travel. They were able to make it to Europe, Canada, Mexico, Bahamas and all 50 States, including Washington DC.  As well as all of the Minnesota State Parks and well over half of the National Parks.

Penny will always be remembered for her infectious smile and dedication to her family.  She also fought a courageous battle against Multiple Sclerosis for over 40 years!!  Her ability to handle all that life threw at her with quiet strength and grace will always be remembered by those who loved her so dearly.

She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, T. Michael Quinn, Daughters: Michelle (Duane) Smith and Deborah (Glen) Schilling, Grandchildren: Taylor and Travis Smith and Katherine and Nicole Schilling, Brother: Steve (Char) Bunn, along with many other family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Travis and Berniece (Steinstra) Bunn.

Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, August 19, 2019 at St Luke’s Episcopal Church, 615 Vermillion St., Hasting, MN.  Visitation will be from 3:00-6:00 PM on Sunday, August 18, 2019 at Kok Funeral Home, 7676 80th Street South, Cottage Grove, MN, as well as one hour prior to the service at the church, Monday. Interment will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
