Norman D. Schreiner, age 87 of Cottage Grove, passed away December 15, 2021.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 am, Thursday, December 23, 2021 at the Church of St. Rita, 8694 80th Street S., Cottage Grove, with visitation one hour prior. Burial will be held at Acacia Park Cemetery, Mendota Heights.
Norman D. Schreiner was born April 4, 1934 in New Auburn, Minnesota to Walter and Bernice Schreiner. At a young age, his family moved to South St. Paul where he attended high school. Norman worked for Swift and Company in South St. Paul as well as the logging industry in California for a short time before entering active duty in the US Navy. He was a proud member of their Construction Batallion, better known as the Seabees, which enabled him to visit many parts of the world including Antarctica and Africa.
Norman met Helen Toenyan in 1960 and they were joined in marriage on July 15, 1961. South St. Paul was their home for many years as their family grew, eventually moving to Cottage Grove in 1981. Norman was employed at the Paper Calmenson Company where he served as a general laborer and steel handler for 27 years. He then worked for the US Postal Service in the Eagan facility for 8 years until he retired.
He enjoyed keeping up on current events, collecting coins and frequent trips to the casino. Norman was an avid puzzle enthusiast and loved doing crossword or jigsaw puzzles whenever he could. He really enjoyed being at home where he could do some handy man projects and entertainingly keep an eye on the light switch usage and thermostat controls. Norman loved being a grandfather and will be deeply missed by his family.
He is survived by his wife Helen; sons Kevin, Scott, Darrin and Jaimy (Shellie); grandchildren Cindel, Jade, Mace, Zoey and Edward; brother James; sister Judith Kupfer as well as nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Walter and Bernice.
