Norma Kirchner’s long journey with early onset Alzheimer’s, ended on May 8, 2018 while surrounded by her loving family.
A celebration of life starting at 2:00 pm will be held on Friday, June 8th at the American Legion Post 98, 328 Broadway Ave., St. Paul Park. Contributions will be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Norma Joan Kirchner was born September 5, 1953 to Thomas and Joan (Starkey) Thompson in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In her younger years the family moved to Woodbury where she later graduated from Park High School in 1971. Norma married, Thomas Kirchner, her high school sweet heart on November 11, 1972 and their journey together began. After working at 3M for a short time, she was able to step into the qualities that fit her the best as an administrative assistant. Norma served as the main executive secretary at Gillette Children’s Hospital for several years and when her family moved to Hastings, she took on the administrative duties at the Carpenter Nature Center. Norma loved cooking, spending time in nature, spoiling her grandchildren and spending time laughing with her daughters. She will always be remembered as a people person who had a great sense of humor and made friends easily and often. Her family was the joy of her life.
Norma is preceded in death by her mother Joan Thompson and infant son Adam. Survived by husband Thomas; daughters Jodi (Paul) Mayrand and Jamie Kirchner; grandchildren Adam and Cullen Mayrand; father Thomas Thompson; siblings Linda Skinaway, Laura Thompson, Wendy (Neil) Ganther and Thomas Thompson.
