Michael Volgren

Michael James Volgren, age 58 of Cottage Grove, passed away peacefully at Our Lady of Peace in St. Paul on Thursday, May 7, 2015.
Funeral service will be 11 am, Thursday, May 14, 2015 at New Life Church, 6758 Bailey Rd., Woodbury. Visitation will be 5:00-8:00 pm on Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at Kok Funeral Home, 7676-80th Street South, Cottage Grove and also one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery. Memorials preferred to Our Lady of Peace Hospice.
Mike was born March 18, 1957 to Carl and Mary Kathryn (Cline-Erickson) Volgren. He grew up with 7 siblings on a dairy farm in Balsam Lake, WI and participated in wrestling, football and gymnastics in school. He graduated a year early from Unity High School in Milltown, WI and enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served his Country as a jet engine mechanic at Mountain Home Air Force Base in Boise, Idaho. He was honorably discharged in 1977.
He attended Minneapolis area vocational technical institute and received his Airframe and Powerplant certificate. He was planning on getting a job working for the airlines, but instead was hired at Andersen Corporation, where he spent 36 years building windows. He retired on March 20, 2015, just after his 58th birthday.
Some things he enjoyed as a young man were hang gliding, piloting small planes, snowmobiling, go-cart racing and spending time with the singles group at Wooddale Church in Richfield, later Eden Prairie.
On October 4, 1992 Mike married Michelle (Zahler) Vasatka and had the joy of becoming a father to Lera (Vasatka) Beauchane, Aaron Vasatka, Anna and Ethan. The children were a delight to Mike and he enjoyed working on their cars, watching them play sports and supporting them in their adventures. He was most proud of his title, "Bampa" to Mila and Paige.
Cancer took him much too soon from us. We will miss his generous and kind heart.
Mike is survived by his wife, Michelle, children Lera (Matt) Beauchane of Minneapolis, Aaron Vasatka of Zimmerman, Anna, Ethan, and 2 beautiful granddaughters, Mila & Paige Beauchane.; brothers Edward (Sue) Erickson , Donald (Nancy) Erickson, Steven (Cheryl) Volgren and sisters Susan (Dareld) Lundgren, Margorie (David) Steingraber, Merry (Pat) Cahill and Karen (Andy) Rohrbach; nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and nephew, Parrish.
