Michael Schmitz Jr.

Michael William Schmitz Jr., age 78 of Newport, died August 13, 2021.

Born in St. Paul, Minnesota on January 8, 1943, Mike graduated from St. Paul Park High school in 1961. Mike was married to his high school sweetheart, Beverly for 57 years, proud father of two children and grandfather of three.  Mike’s greatest pleasure after his family was classic cars.  Working on them, talking about them, and driving them.  Mike’s career with the phone company spanned 35 years and after retirement spent many years with Beverly enjoying their travels and grandchildren.

Mike is preceded in death by his wife Beverly Schmitz; parents Michael William Schmitz Sr. and Rita Schmitz (Mroszak); sister Caroline Feldick.  He is survived by 2 sisters, Laurie Avoles and Joanne George; son Michael Schmitz III (Susan); daughter Stephanie Rice (Marty), grandchildren Anna Schmitz, Mary Schmitz, and Michael Schmitz IV and many sisters and brothers-in-laws, nieces, great-nieces, nephews, great-nephews whom he loved dearly.

A service commemorating Beverly and Michael’s life will be 10:30 am, Friday, August 27, 2021 at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 920 Holley Avenue, St. Paul Park with visitation one hour prior.  Interment will be at the church cemetery.
