Loving. Intelligent. Courageous. Humorous. Loyal. Hardworking. Good Heart. Mike died peacefully at home in the loving arms of his wife, Marge Meconis, children, Sara and Ben Phillips, and sister, Shawn Phillips. He is at peace after a courageous struggle to recover from a brain hemorrhage in May 2007. Mike was devoted to his family and passionate about the environment; a long-time DNR Forestry employee, and technical advisor for the Forest Resource Council. He received his PhD in Forest Soils from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand. Active in his community, Mike was pivotal in establishing the Newport Bailey School Forest. He was the Chair of the Newport Park Board. Mike's heart was always in the right place, and his intentions were simple and pure. As a shepherd of the natural world, he strived to make the earth a better place. As we walk through the forests, and admire the beauty of nature, Mike will be with us. Service 12 NOON Saturday at Kok Funeral Home, 1201 Portland Avenue, St. Paul Park, MN (651-459-2875) with a visitation from 10-12 PM.
