Michael Charles Hinz

August 27, 1942 — December 27, 2024

Woodbury, Minnesota

Michael Charles Hinz, age 82 of Woodbury was born August 27, 1942, to Charles and Theresa Hinz, passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on December 27, 2024. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, "papa," brother, uncle, and friend, known for his unwavering love of family, deep faith, and warm sense of humor.

Michael leaves behind his beloved wife of 57 years, Josephine "JoAnn" Hinz, and their children: Emily (Chuck) Robb, Brian (Laura), Jean Hinz, John (Shannon), Paul (Tricia), Sarah (Thomas) Bystrzycki, Mary (Ryan) Collier, and Catherine Hinz. Michael was the proud grandfather of 16 cherished grandchildren, each of whom he loved deeply; siblings, Jim (Nita), Elaine (Joel) Greer, Janella (Chuck) Schroers, Tina (Jim) Berkhoel, Pam Carlson, Tom (Louise), Grace (Mark) Alberg, Terry (Jane), Renee (Denny) Holz; sisters-in-law Ann Hinz and Pat Hinz; brother-in-law Bob Younger. He was preceded in death by parents Charles and Theresa, brothers Philip and Donald, sister Patricia Younger, brother-in-law Tom Carlson, and nephews Kelly Hinz and Morgan Hinz.

A man of strong faith, Michael prayed the Rosary every day and served as a guiding light for those who knew him. His love for his faith was matched only by his dedication to his family. He instilled in them the importance of love, kindness, and faithful devotion. His strength, tenacity, and wisdom will be profoundly missed. He had a remarkable way of showing up just when you needed him, always ready to lend a hand and get the job done without ever being asked.

Michael was a visionary entrepreneur whose hard work and determination transformed a small refuse hauling business into one of the largest private haulers in Minnesota. Starting with only two garbage trucks, he built a reputation for reliability, efficiency, and customer service. In retirement from Gopher Disposal, his entrepreneurial acumen carried him into many other successful ventures. His passion for industry and commitment to excellence grew his companies exponentially over the years.

He gave his talents and time to numerous charitable organizations. Michael served his Catholic Parish in numerous capacities, repaired countless cars for Car Care, and volunteered to fly patients in need of medical services with Wings of Mercy.

Michael's favorite pastimes included spending time at the family cabin, fishing in quiet waters, woodworking, making stained glass, sharing his love of restoring and driving classic cars, and working in the corn and blueberry patch. He also had a knack for practical jokes, and his fun-loving nature brought laughter to every gathering.

He leaves a legacy of love and faith that will continue to inspire and guide his family and friends for years to come. Michael will be missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
