Michael Brunkow

Michael D. Brunkow, age 39 of Newport, passed away unexpectedly on June 24, 2017.

Memorial service will be 11:00 am, Friday, June 30, 2017 at All Saint's Lutheran Church, 8100 Belden Blvd. S., Cottage Grove. Visitation will be 5-8 pm on Thursday, June 29, 2017 at Kok Funeral Home, 7676 -80th St. S. and also one hour prior to the service at church. In honor of Mike, feel free to attend the visitation or service as if it is "casual Friday." In lieu of flowers memorials preferred.

Michael "Mike" grew up in Cottage Grove, was an active Boy Scout and graduated from Park High School in 1996. He attended University of Wisconsin-Stout and graduated in 2001 with a degree in graphic communications management. Following an internship with Best Buy, he stayed on with them for over 13 years where he served on a special projects team. He was currently working at Express Image in Little Canada where he was working in the client services department. Mike developed a love of collecting, refurbishing and re-selling a variety of guns through the years. He enjoyed reading, going to movies, watching comedy and live police shows on TV. Mike was a big fan of sauerkraut and smoking meat as well as caring for his terrarium garden and hydroponic herb garden. In the past several years he decided to adopt a ketogenics diet with a hope to get healthy and was able to lose nearly 100 lbs.

Mike is survived by his parents John and Gayle; sister Jennifer (Nick) Graziani; nephew Jackson; cousin Kristie Avery-Nelson; and the love of his life, Dawn Pemble. He is preceded in death by grandparents, Red and Elaine Edblom, Karl and Ruth Brunkow; aunts Charlotte Haglund and Barbara Avery; uncle Wayne Edblom and beloved companion Tek.
