Maxine Linda Vanek

Maxine (Ferris) Vanek, age 70, of Cottage Grove, Minnesota passed away on February 5, 2024 after a brief illness.

Born in Nebraska in 1953, Maxine was the third child of Melvern and Mildred Ferris. Maxine, her parents, and five siblings all had the same initials, MLF, a charming connection to each other that resulted in an article in the local paper. Maxine and her siblings maintained a life-long closeness.

Though they later divorced, Maxine married Ed Vanek in 1972. Daughter Jennifer and son Charles (Chuck) arrived in due course and the family lived in Cottage Grove, Minnesota. Maxine lived in the same home for over 40 years and made deep friendships in the neighborhood.

Maxine retired from Target to enjoy time with her longtime partner, John Singer. She shared her love of crafting with granddaughter Aliza, explored books with granddaughter Sophia, and enjoyed puzzles with grandson Logan. She stayed connected to Target friends through group lunches. In the Ferris tradition, Maxine enjoyed a good card game, especially with friends at the senior center.

Preceded in death by her parents and John. Maxine is survived by daughter, Jennifer Bradway (Brian); granddaughter, Sophia; grandson, Logan; son, Charles (Amy); granddaughter, Aliza; sisters, Margaret (Jim), Marilyn (Keith), and Mavis; brothers, Mark (Tee) and Milton (Denise); plus many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Memorial Service 2 PM with visitation beginning at 1 PM, Saturday, February 17, 2024 at Kok Funeral Home, 7676 80th St. S., Cottage Grove, Minnesota 55016.
