Mary Tyrrell

August 1, 1919 — February 6, 2015

Mary Pelekoudas Tyrrell passed away peacefully, on February 6th 2015, at the age of 95 – she, however, would tell you 39. She lived a long and wonderful life. Her parents, George and Georgia emigrated from Greece and settled on the west side of Chicago. Mary was born (August 1st 1919) into a large family; she was the 5th of 14 children. Mary graduated from Parker High School in 1939 and went on to attend secretarial school. She worked as a civil servant for the USAF, which enabled her to travel to such places as Germany, Libya (rode a camel), Guam (survived Hurricane Karen) and of course Greece.

Mary was a longtime member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Lincoln, NE, where she took great pride singing in their choir, assisting with the Greek festivals and Holy Communion. Her hobbies included bowling, collecting Hummel figurines, making travel scrapbooks and getting frustrated watching the Chicago Cubs. I'm sure she will continue to cheer the Cubs to the World Series.

Mary is survived by her son Dave (Vicki), daughter in law, Sherry, her grandchildren Bryson (Sara), Brittney, Brandon (Andrea), Kayla, Scott, and Kevin. There are also 5 (soon to be 6) great grandchildren. What a wonderful legacy she's left. Special thanks to Norris Square (Cottage Grove) and Hometown Senior Living (Eagan). We love and miss you YiaYia.

Services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, at St. George's Greek Orthodox Church, 1111 Summit Ave., St. Paul, with Fr. Richard Dimetrius Andrews officitating. Interment will be at Roselawn Cemetery, Roseville, Minnesota.
