Mary A. (nee: Schroeder)Grovum
67 of Cottage Grove died peacefully surrounded by loving family on Oct. 30, 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer. Mary was born on March 20, 1949 in St. Paul, Minnesota to Arthur & Mary (Panek). She grew up in Newport and graduated from Park high school in 1967. Mary continued her education at Anoka Ramsey Community College in nursing. During her years in high school she worked at Tinucci's with Clayton Grovum; they married June 5, 1971 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. They raised their four children in Cottage Grove. Mary was a home care RN for 20 years. Her family was very important to her, she took pride caring for her children, grandchildren and her parents in their later years. Mary loved to spend time in her yard and garden. Entertaining and hosting family holidays gave her great joy, always making sure everyone was taken care of. She was the "link that kept the chandelier up". Mary is survived by husband of 45 years Clay; children, Annette (Fred) Luden, Brant (Delilah), Margie (Jason Mailand), Julia; grandchildren, Emily, Jordan, Sam, Tommy, Frederick, Caden, Maxx, Jack, Kacie; siblings, Sharon (Jim) Richmond, Carol (Jason Bellantoni) Crossley, Jane Arneson, Bob(Carol), John; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by parents Arthur & Mary; granddaughter Ashley. Mass of Christian Burial 11am Monday, Nov. 7 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church (920 Holley Ave. St. Paul Park) with visitation 2-6 Sunday, at Kok Funeral Home ( 1201 Portland Ave. St. Paul Park) and one hour prior to Mass at church. Interment St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery, St. Paul Park, MN. Mary was the heart and soul of her family and she will be deeply missed.
