Marlys Goebel

Marlys Goebel, age 84, formerly of Cottage Grove, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2018 surrounded by family.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, she is survived by daughters Claudia and Kara, son Jon, grandchildren Bo, Bart, Cade, Braden, Brooke, and Charley, nieces and nephews.  Preceded in death by husband of 58 years, Alvin; sisters Anna, Eleanor, Verna, brothers Matt and Gene; parents Anna & Michael Jenny.

Marlys was a long-time resident of Cottage Grove, originally relocating with husband Alvin from North Dakota in the 1950’s to operate a successful crop and Thoroughbred horse farm.  With Alvin, she was instrumental in bringing Thoroughbred horse racing to Minnesota, and served on various Minnesota Thoroughbred Association committees.  Marlys continued to actively enjoy racing and breeding horses in partnership with Claudia and Jon.

Marlys was a wonderful, kind, loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt.  She will be deeply missed and remembered by all.
