Marion Arlene Evers ("Ma Gould") Nelson
Age 78, of Afton moved into her room which was prepared by Jesus on April 24, 2013. She was born on March 28, 1935 in the same place as her mother, the kitchen of her grandmother's house in Delton Township.
Marion loved her children fiercely and was always supporting them through all of life's challenges and celebrations, but her pride and joy were her grandchildren, along with her husband Doug, she traveled the country to attend every event possible ranging from sporting and music events to milestones of graduations and award ceremonies. No distance was too far or event too short to stop them from getting in the car or plane to attend.
Marion was passionate about reading and teaching, she taught 5th grade in Milford Iowa and Jordan MN before finding her passion in teaching high school reading at Shakopee High School for over 25 years, until her retirement in 1993. Marion enjoyed reading, sewing, golfing, playing cards, and spending time with her family at her cabin in Wisconsin and homes in Minnesota and Arizona. Marion had a wonderful sense of humor and a personality that folks just loved to be around. In Marion's own words "I have had a wonderful life and was blessed with my children and friends."
Marion was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Margaret (Lehnert) Evers.
Marion is survived by her husband of 22 years, Douglas Nelson; children, Julie (Ray) Loftus of Savage, Lori (Randy) Bullock of Shakopee, Jill Gould ("KC" Cushing) of Vermont, Marla (Joseph) Sand of New Prague and Nathan (Katie) Gould of Phoenix AZ; twelve grandchildren; brothers, Raymond (Denice) Evers of Springfield, Norbert (Carol) Evers of Mankato; her sister Lila (Jim) Willis of Grand Junction Co., and brother-in-law, Wallace (Mary Ann) of Afton; as well as cousins, nieces, nephews, former in-laws and friends whom she loved dearly.
The family would like to send a special thank you to the trained professional staff at the Pillars Hospice in Oakdale where Marion spent the last four months. The gentle, kind, compassionate, and caring attention received by our mother was a source of much strength, love and comfort for us all.
