Marie Sheryak

Marie M. (Fritz) Sheryak, age 72 of Minneapolis, formerly of Newport, passed away May 7, 2017.

Funeral service will be 1:00 pm, Thursday, May 18, 2017 at Kok Funeral Home, 7676 – 80th Street S., Cottage Grove with visitation starting at 11:00 am. Interment will be at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Cemetery.

Marie Mildred (Fritz) Sheryak was born May 1, 1945 in Brainerd, Minnesota. She grew up in Newport and graduated from St. Joseph's Academy in St. Paul in 1963. She attended St. Catherine's for a short time and then received her certificate from beauty school. She later opened up her own shop in St. Paul which she operated for a few years. Marie worked for Mounds Park Hospital as a physical therapy assistant and also served as a nurse's assistant at a few local care centers. She enjoyed creating and collecting dolls and various toys. She also enjoyed reading, animals and knitting.

Marie is survived by her children, Joseph Steffens Sheryak and Mae Marie Sheryak; grandchildren, Alexandra, Cassandra, Evalea and Evergaard; sister Ronnie Fuller; step-brother Bert (Carolyn) McKasy as well as several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Elizabeth (Bailey) Fritz and brother James Peter.
