Marie Alfveby

Marie Alfveby, age 95, formerly of Cottage Grove, MN; passed away peacefully on July 28, 2024.

Memorial Service will be at 2 PM on Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at Kok Funeral Home, 7676 80th Street S.; Cottage Grove, MN with visitation one hour prior to the service from 1-2 PM.

Marie was born on Sept. 26, 1928. She attended elementary school in Rogers, MN. Eventually she moved to St. Paul and graduated from Humboldt high school.

Marie met and fell in love with Earl Alfveby; they married on July 26,1946 and were married for 68 years. During that time, they had five children.

She was a full-time homemaker and excellent cook. We loved the warm fresh bread, cookies and apple pie slices! In her earlier years, Marie enjoyed participating in dancing, roller skating, snow and water skiing, and trips down the St. Croix to "The Alfveby" island. Marie was an expert connoisseur at garage sales and knew how to stretch a dollar.

Her greatest passion was the hobby farm in Amery, WI, where she raised a variety of animals but truly loved her horses. They lived in Amery for 19 years.

We will miss you, but we certainly fit a lot into those 95 years!

Marie also known by family as "Gigi" is survived by her children Jeffrey (Nancy), Sandra Caminati and Steven (Wendy); daughter-in-law Sue Alfveby; son-in-law Mark Zilka; grandchildren Jordan, Mandy, Katie, Michael, Alex, Cassandra, Laura, Jared, Dena and Frankie; and many great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents George and Isabell Coawette; husband Earl; children Bruce and Wendy; brothers Ray and Lee; and sister Del.
