Marian (Bechtold) Stone, age 88 of Cottage Grove, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2025.
Born in St. Louis Park, Marian from the start was determined to chart her own path. Her whimsy infused a life lived fully and with stubborn resolve. After marrying childhood sweetheart John, she became a proud matriarch who baked everyone’s favorites at Christmas and threw legendary Halloween parties for her grandkids. She knew her neighbors, nurtured her gardens, and kept a lifetime supply of candy on hand. Marian found joy in the music of Andy Williams and the birds that visited her yard.
She was a trailblazing volunteer EMT when it was unusual for a woman. Marian pursued a nursing career after motherhood, working in the Children’s Hospital NICU. She served her community on multiple city commissions. Marian was a talented folk art hobbyist and loved antiques.
The family is deeply grateful for Marian’s patient and kind caregivers at Inver Glen Memory Care and Hospice of the Midwest. These amazing individuals helped Marian rediscover favorite parts of herself and find peace.
Marian is survived by children Debbie Stone, Chuck (Kris) Stone, Jody Lehman, and Amy Elisabeth Lee; grandchildren Hannah (Ethan) Lehman-Derhy, Karlee (Jake) Weinmann, Nash (Mieko) Robinette, Sam Engebretson, Sergio Portesan, Mayson (Travis) Lehman, Madi (Mason) Stone, and Kallie (Nathan) Stone; great-grandchild Cole; brother Bob (Sara) Bechtold; brother-in-law Ned Stone; and sisters-in-law Joy and Nancy Martin.
She is preceded in death by beloved husband John and son Todd, brother Jim Bechtold, and parents Helen and Joseph Bechtold.
