Marcella Sellner

Marcella G. Sellner, age 89 of Newport, MN, passed away on August 21, 2013 at the Regina Care Center in Hastings.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 920 Holley Ave., St. Paul Park with visitation one hour prior at church. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Marcella was born December 23, 1923 near Gibbon, Minnesota to John and Gertrude (Voltin) Huhn. She attended country school and enjoyed her years growing up on the family farm. She met Sylvester Sellner and they were later married on May 6, 1941 at St. George Catholic Church in St. George, Minnesota. They lived in the Sleepy Eye and New Ulm areas where Marcella worked at Del Monte Canning and the Petrius Poultry Plant while also farming with Sylvester. Over the next several years they lived in Buffalo Lake, St. Peter and Avon before moving to Newport in 1972. After Sylvester died in 1975, Marcella was the custodian (?) at St. Mary's in St. Paul. Over the years she enjoyed spending time outside in her garden, planting flowers, needlepoint, crochet and sewing. She has been a long-time member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.

Marcella is survived by four children, Sylvia Sundlin, Stan Sellner, Patrick (Kathy) Sellner and Joanne Sellner; 10 grandchildren, Kevin Sundlin, Karen Blatt, Brian Sundlin, Sharon Kennedy, Bradley, Jeffrey, Christopher and Kimberly Sellner, Leeanne Rybachek and Barbara Johnson; 15 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband Sylvester; son, Richard; parents; sisters, Veronica and Elnore Huhn; brothers Albert and John Huhn.
