Lyle Baker Jr., age 88 of Oakdale, formerly of St. Paul Park, passed away on February 4, 2016 at The Pillars in Oakdale.
Memorial service will be 11:00 am, Thursday, February 11, 2016 at All Saints Lutheran Church, 8100 Belden Blvd., Cottage Grove with visitation one hour prior at church. Private interment will be in the Ft. Snelling National Cemetery. Lyle Donald Baker Jr. was born November 15, 1927 near Comfrey, Minnesota to Lyle Sr. and Amy Baker. He graduated from Wanamingo High School in 1945 and went on to serve in the US Navy.
He was united in marriage to Lois Hannestad on February 4, 1967 at Mount Olivet Lutheran Church in Minneapolis and made their home in St. Paul Park for many years. Lyle worked for Sanborn Map Company and created various maps of the Twin Cities. He went on to mechanic school in Iowa prior to his employment with Northwest Airlines where he worked as a mechanic and inspector until his retirement in 1989.
Lyle loved fishing, golfing, hunting for morel mushrooms in the spring and camping. He played clarinet for several bands including the Minneapolis and St. Paul Postal Bands, The Osman Shrine Band, Washington County Band and Two Harbors City Band.
Lyle is survived by his wife Lois; son Paul (Diane); granddaughters Natalie and Samantha and sister Edris Vick. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Marcy; parents; sister Jane; brother Charles.
