Lorraine Schmit

Lorraine Schmit, age 89, passed away November 23, 2021.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 am, Friday, Nov. 26, 2021 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 920 Holley Ave., St. Paul Park with visitation starting at 10:15 am.  Interment will be at a later date at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to St. Thomas Aquinas.

Lorraine Therese Schmit was born September 4, 1932 in Scott County, Minnesota to William and Margaret Stevens.  She was a graduate of the Mechanic Arts High School in St. Paul in 1950.  She was married to Dominic Schmit and together they enjoyed 61 year of marriage.  Through her work life, she served as administrative support for the State of Minnesota and in the food service department for District 833 for many years.  Lorraine enjoyed bowling, going to the camper, reading and spending time with her grandkids.  She and Dom enjoyed travelling to Texas every winter and going on dozens of cruises.  She generously donated her time by serving as a volunteer at St. Thomas Aquinas, the Dorothy Day Center and distributing bread to those in need.

She is preceded in death by her husband Dominic; parents William and Margaret Stevens as well as sisters Mary “Mae” Stevens and Bernie (Joseph) Moos.  She is survived by her children, Cindy (Ron) Reische, Steve (Cheryl), Jan (Dave) O'Ryan, Jim (Linda), and Terry (Jay) Slininger; 14 grandchildren Kate (Nate) Elling, Ron Reische Jr., Patrick (Alyssa) Reische, Ellie Reische, William (Janet) Schmit, Ryan (Britany) Schmit, Cassie (Steve) Bahl, Timothy O’Ryan, Shannen (Matt) Hugger, Brad Schmit, Ben (Peyton) Schmit, Dominic (Natalie) Slininger, Nicole, Slininger and Joseph Slininger; 9 great grandchildren Mason Michaud, Samantha Elling, Alex Elling, Henry Reische, Kellan Schmit, Lily Schmit, Parker Bahl, McKinley Bahl and Claire Hugger.
