Loren Swanson

Loren R. “Swanee” Swanson,62, of Cottage Grove, passed away unexpectedly on November 13, 2017. A gathering to celebrate Loren’s life will be held Friday, November 17 from 5-8 pm at Kok Funeral Home (7676 80th St. S. Cottage Grove). Loren was born on October 24, 1955 to Ralph & Betty (Anderson) in St. Paul, Minnesota.  He grew up in the Macalester Groveland neighborhood and graduated from Highland High School in 1973. He starting working for the Parks and Recreation Department for the City of St. Paul in the early 70’s and retired from there just a few years ago. He married Mina McCann on October 25, 1980 after they met on a blind date. In his younger years he enjoyed playing slow pitch softball with his friends. Loren loved to spend time at the Moon Lake Resort in Clayton, Wisconsin where he spent time on the pontoon and fishing. Loren spent many hours teaching and encouraging his boys how to skate and coaching their little league teams, and enjoyed riding his motorcycle. Loren was known for his distinct laugh and loved being a grandpa. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Survived by loving wife of 37 years Mina; sons, Bryan (Rudie) and Gerald (Kim); grandchildren, Kylie, Brayden, Cassidy, Savannah, and Liberty; sisters, Carol ( Brian) Karl and Linda Johnson; mother in law, Joan McCann; many other family and friends. Preceded in death by parents, Ralph & Betty.
