Lois Cornelia Mortensen

Lois Mortensen, age 84, of Cottage Grove passed away unexpectedly due to complications in surgery with her family by her side on June 18, 2024.

Funeral service will be 11 AM on Friday, June 28, 2024 at Newport Lutheran Church 900 15th Street; Newport, MN with a visitation an hour before the service from 10-11 AM. All are welcome to a luncheon following the service. Interment will be at Newport Cemetery in Newport, MN.

Lois was born on January 29, 1940 in Cambridge, Minnesota to Hugo and Cecilia (Dorow) Maaske. She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Kent on June 9, 1980. They settled into Cottage Grove in 1985 making their life here, raising their family. She was a big fiction reader and a shopper blessing family with many new great finds buying for everyone else but herself. She was especially involved at Newport Lutheran Church volunteering her time, a church she had attended the majority of her life. Her primary drive was her heart for her family and will be forever remembered for the endless love she gave unconditionally. She will will be deeply missed. 

Lois is survived by loving husband Kent; sons Kevin Rinish and Kirk (Michelle) Mortensen; grandchildren Jacob (Megan) Rinish and Viola Mortensen; great grandchildren Isaac and Logan Rinish; siblings Lucia Gebhardt, Joyce Dominguez, JoAnn Arnold, Richard Maaske and James (Aleta) Maaske; and several nieces and nephews. Lois is preceded in death by her parents Hugo and Cecilia Maaske.

Memorials can be directed to Newport Lutheran Church in Newport, Minnesota.
