Larry R. Strom, age 76, of St. Paul, MN passed away on November 26, 2023 with his wife, Diana, by his side and supported by the love of friends and family.
Larry was born and raised in St. Paul, one of four boys in a home where delicious treats were baked on Saturdays, and the importance of doing good for others was always emphasized. He shared this value with his sons and stepsons, grandchildren, and all who he came in contact with. He modeled a life of generosity, creativity, and compassion. Larry enjoyed adventures: he had seemingly endless energy for biking, hiking, and walking, and explored much of Minnesota and the world with Diana and loved ones.
Larry’s love of music started at a young age, and continued throughout his life in a variety of ways. In high school, Larry played the saxophone in a band with his friends. He was a member of the U.S. Army band, a Stillwater High School band teacher, and the Music Director at St. Rita’s. He played in a variety of bands over the decades. Before ALS took away his ability to play, he spent his last years as a musician playing regularly around St. Paul: in parks, at the Farmer’s Market, and at Regions Hospital. He loved a wide variety of music, and generously shared his talents and joy with all.
Larry was preceded in death by father, Earl “Bud” Strom; mother, Helen Wenos; brother, Dennis Strom; and sister-in-law Carol Strom. Survived by wife, Diana Strom née Lovcik; sons, Jeff (Dee) Strom, Eric (Jenia) Strom, Greg (Maddie) Strom, Matt (Beth) Barber, and Luke Barber; grandchildren, Emily, Annie, Siri, Gavin, and Rheia; brothers, Tom and Jim (Diane); a large, loving extended family, and many dear friends.
