Laura McNamara

Laura Jean McNamara, age 53 of Cottage Grove, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2019 at her home surrounded by her beloved family.

Funeral service will be 5:00 pm, Friday, March 8, 2019 at Kok Funeral Home, 7676 – 80th Street S., Cottage Grove with visitation starting at 3 pm until the time of service.  The family would like to personally thank the staff at Allina Hospice and Minnesota Oncology for their compassionate care shown to her and her family.  Flowers may be sent to the funeral home on or prior to the day of service.

Laura was born July 3, 1965 in St. Paul, Minnesota to William and Mary (Connett) Hurlburt.  She grew up in the Newport and St. Paul Park area, graduating from Park High School in 1984.  Laura took the training to become a beautician and received her license the following year.  Although Laura was introduced to Scot McNamara in junior high, they started dating after graduation and were later married on September 22, 1989.  They lived in St. Paul Park for a short time until they built their home in 1993.  Laura continued to operate as a hair stylist in West St. Paul and Inver Grove Heights and enjoyed getting to know and enjoy the people she served.

Laura loved being in the sun and spending time by the pool or some body of water.  She and Scot enjoyed annual trips to the Cayman Islands as well as their 4th of July get-a-ways to Gull Lake.  She also enjoyed taking walks and spending time with her precious “fur baby”, Gracy Lu.  She brought fun wherever she went and was known by her infectious laugh.  What brought joy to her life, was spending time with her children and her grand babys… she wore the title of “grandma” with pride!

Laura is survived by her husband Scot; daughters Ashley (Jeff) Wright; Lauren (fiancé Wesley Nelson) McNamara; mother Mary Jane Hurlburt; grandchildren Niall and Rylan; siblings Mary (Ken) Fritz, Karen (Tony) Mendoza, Patty (Joe) Mausolf and Jeff Hurlburt as well as her beloved Gracy Lu.  She is preceded in death by her grandson Deaken Scot Wright, father William and brother Jim “Herb” Hurlburt.
