Born on May 12, 1937, in Minneapolis, Karen spent her entire life in Minnesota, where she cherished her time at the family cabin in Nisswa, MN. She enjoyed walks in nature, found delight in watching hummingbirds fly outside the windows, and loved reading the latest Nicholas Sparks book on the porch. She adored her pet Yorkshire Terrier, Howard, and her days were brightened whenever he came to visit her room.
Her warmth, infectious laugh, and quick wit were a source of joy to all who knew her.
A graduate of Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis, Karen went on to build a successful career as the owner of KRG and Associates.
She is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 68 years, Bruce Gengnagel; their children, Curt (Christy Kuehn) Gengnagel and DeAnna Nelson; grandchildren, Kent, Alyssa, and Leah; and great-grandchildren, Daisy, Scarlett, and Wren.
Karen was preceded in death by her son, Drake Gengnagel, and her brother, Neil Applequist.
Karen's life and legacy will be honored in a private family ceremony. Her family, friends, and all who were fortunate to know her will deeply miss her vibrant presence.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
