Joyce Caswell

Joyce Evyone Caswell, age 82 of Cottage Grove, died Thursday, October 2, 2014 at the Woodwinds Health Campus in Woodbury.

Funeral service will be 3:00 pm Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at Kok Funeral Home, 1201 Portland Avenue, St. Paul Park. Visitation will be Monday, October 6, 2014 from 4:00-7:00 pm at the funeral home and also for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Cottage Grove Cemetery.

Joyce E. (Nielsen) Caswell was born August 25, 1932 in Lake Benton, Minnesota to Marvin and Gladys (Hockinson) Nielsen. She grew up in Tyler, Minnesota and graduated from high school in 1950. She was united in marriage to William Leonard Caswell on October 1, 1950. The couple farmed in South Dakota until moving to Cottage Grove in 1967. In addition to being a homemaker, she worked at the Twin Cities Arsenal, Applebaum's Supermarket in Cottage Grove for over 30 years (which later became Rainbow), and also Whirlpool. Her interests included polka dancing with Bill, traveling, baking, putting puzzles together and following the Minnesota Twins. Joyce was an avid collector of Christmas villages and loved to decorate for the holidays. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and many friends.

Joyce is survived by her sons, Douglas and Randall (Candy); daughter Rebecca Allie; 6 grandchildren, Jason, Josh, Katherine, Justin, Bradley and Matthew; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Donna Rae Borresen and Joan Christensen; brother James Nielsen as well as several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband William in 1994; sons, Daniel, Timothy and Steve.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Diabetes Association or the donor's local humane society.
