John R. Stoltenburg, 61, of Cottage Grove, died Thursday afternoon, August 14, 2008 at Regions Hospital in Saint Paul.
John R. Stoltenburg was born May 31, 1947 in Windom, Minnesota, the son of Ernest and Florine (Nieno) Stoltenburg. After moving around a bit, John settled with his parents in Iowa where he graduated from Clinton High School and then went on to graduate from the University of Minnesota.
On December 21, 1974, John married his loving wife Helen Kittelson and settled down in Cottage Grove to raise their family. John was a 36 year employee of 3M and had many wonderful friends there. It was there that he became a systems analyst, a position he enjoyed. John was an avid woodworker, boater, cyclist, and traveler.
John is preceded in death by his son Eric, mother Florine, and brother Mark.
He is survived by his loving wife Helen of Cottage Grove; son Jeff (Julie) of Ellsworth, WI; daughters Jill (Charles) Appel of St. Paul, Laura (Joseph) Schmidt of Milwaukee, WI; and grandson Jack Stoltenburg of Ellsworth, WI. He is also survived by his father Ernest of New Ulm; brother Ned (Myrna) of West Burlington, Iowa; and sisters Nancy (Tim) Schumann of Waukesha, WI and Marcia (Robert) Hutchins of Prior Lake.
