John Lind

John Lind, age 70 of Newport, passed away April 12, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in St. Paul.

Funeral service will be 7 pm, Saturday, April 14, 2018 at Kok Funeral Home, 1201 Portland Avenue, St. Paul Park with visitation starting at 4 pm until the time of service.

John Marvin Lind was born May 23, 1947 in Frederic, Wisconsin to Hilmer and Edith Lind, the oldest of three boys.  He grew up in Newport, Minnesota and graduated from Park High School in 1965.  He worked his way through college with a degree in history from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.  Upon his graduation he returned to Newport where he worked at North Star Steel.  John met Linda Flackey, the love of his life, and they were joined in marriage on May 8, 1976 at Guardian Angel’s Catholic Church.  They made Newport their home where they raised their three daughters.  He was proud to be an active supporter and member of the United Steel Workers of America during his working career.  John retired from North Star Steel in 2002 after serving for 33 years.  He was a WWII buff and an avid classical movie collector.  He loved watching the Minnesota Twins, going fishing and spending time with his pets.  John loved his family dearly and enjoyed spending time at home.

John is survived by his wife of 41 years, Linda; daughters Michelle (Nick) Degerstrom, Jakki (Michael) Rassmussen, Jennifer (Jason) King; brothers Steven and Howard Lind; grandchildren Sydney Bowling, Grace Rasmussen, Julia Rasmussen, Jonathon Degerstrom, Marshall Rasmussen.  He is preceded in death by his parents.
