Jeffery “Spike” Michael Kortus, age 65, passed away on May 2, 2023. He is preceded in death by his mother, Darlene and father, Gerald. Jeffery was born on September 14, 1957, in St Paul, MN. Spike is survived by his siblings, Joe, Tim (Kris), Joy (John), Jerome (Becky), John (Dolores), Jerry (Diane), Jim (Judy), Carol (Steve), Mike (Lori Jo), and Jay (Sharon); his Goddaughter, Nicki; and dozens of nieces and nephews.
Spike was an avid sports fan, outdoorsman, and fisherman. He loved celebrating the 4th of July with his family and friends, he always had a spectacular fireworks display. Spike was a loving brother, uncle, and caregiver.
Spike’s true heart was exposed when mom needed a caregiver. He went beyond the role of son and became a constant companion, and a true friendship was formed. He took on that responsibility and helped mom live with dignity and respect and she was never lonely.
He loved being an uncle which is evident by the impact he had on his nieces and nephews. They could always count on an open door to just hang out and unwind. He had a very special relationship with his brother Jimmy, “doing what brothers do”.
We will celebrate Spike’s life on Saturday, July 1, 2023, from 3-6 pm as we gather at mom’s house at 8240 Ingberg Trail in Cottage Grove. Bring a chair, something to drink and all your stories and memories as we honor “Spike”. Here’s a question:
Hey, what do fireworks look like from Heaven?
Brother, you are home now. May you find comfort and peace in the arms of your heavenly Father. And may you be united again with mom and dad. Peace to you. We love you.
