Jean Shinn

Jean M. (Fallon) Shinn, age 89 of Cottage Grove, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2021 at Regions Hospital.

Private interment will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

Jean Mary Shinn was born September 1, 1931 in Rochester, Minnesota.  She grew up in Rochester where she graduated high school 1949.  She married her childhood sweetheart, James R. Shinn on June 30, 1951.  Jean returned with Jim to San Diego, California where he served in the US Navy base.

Jean and Jim started their family in Rochester and worked at the Mayo Clinic for a few years.  They lived in St. Paul for a few years while Jim completed his degree at the U of M and then moved to Cottage Grove in 1959.  Through those years she kept active with her children’s activities.  Jean started working at Pine Hill Elementary in the late 1960’s and then went on to work with Jim as an educational assistant in the St. Paul School District.  They both retired in 1989.  In her later years, she was a member of the Red Hat Club and frequently volunteered at the Senior Center.  Jean was an avid fan of the Cooking Channel and enjoyed looking through recipes.  Jean loved her children and adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her son Dr. Michael (Linda); daughters, Teresa (Lee) Peterson, Kathleen (Daniel) Schwartz, and Patricia Hagerman; 8 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by husband James and son-in-law, William Hagerman.
