Jean Bloomquist

Jean Bloomquist, age 86, of Cottage Grove passed away peacefully on February 10, 2020.

Funeral Service will be 11 AM, Friday, February 14, 2020 at Cottage Grove United Church of Christ, 7008 Lamar Ave S. Cottage Grove, with visitation beginning at 10 AM. Interment will be at Cottage Grove Cemetery.

Jean Emilie Bloomquist was born June 29, 1933 in St. Paul, Minnesota to Leroy Gershom and Laura “Babe” Shingledecker.  She grew up up in Old Cottage Grove and graduated from Park High School.  She had met Axel “Bud” Bloomquist in elementary school and they were later married on June 7, 1952.  They moved to Bud’s family farm near Cottage Grove where they raised their 6 children.  She loved crafts and had various crocheting and knitting projects going at all times.  Jean enjoyed gardening, cooking and taught her girls how to can.

She and Bud enjoyed going to flea markets and there wasn’t a garage sale they missed out on.  They made many fond memories with the whole family at their lake home in Wisconsin.  Jean and Bud took quite a few trips and enjoyed being on the go.  Jean was an extraordinary mom, grandma and great grandma and who will be remembered for her great love for them.

She is preceded in death by her husband Axel “Bud”; son, David; grandson, Matthew; great-granddaughter, Madison; parents and sister Gayle Gonsoir.  Jean is survived by her loving children, Jerry (Julie), Tim (Kathy), Kathy (Mike) Cherry, Mary, Laurie, Scott (Laura); 23 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren, siblings Neil (Jeannette), Aaron, Susan (Richard) Detviler, Nancy (Randy) Robole and Jeff (Roxanne).
