James Meyer

James "Jim" P. Meyer, age 69, of Cottage Grove, formerly of Bloomington, MN, passed away peacefully. His family walked him home the morning of February 24, 2017. His sweet soul is at peace now.

Jim had a knack for finding the bright side of any situation. He not only played the hand he was dealt; he usually managed to turn it into a royal flush. His spirit stayed strong no matter the obstacles he faced.

A humble leader with a huge heart, Jim inspired those around him with his enthusiasm, generosity and wisdom. From long-time colleagues to new friends made on family vacations, all who met Jim found him easy to love. Countless people considered him a second father.

Jim was always quick with a joke — usually accompanied by big, genuine belly laugh. As one friend put it, "He lit up a room whenever he was in it." He had an easy smile and a sparkle that never seemed to leave his eyes.

The world was a more beautiful place with that sparkle in it. Those who loved Jim will carry it with us always.

Survived by wife, Sue; children, Jim and Nikki (Jason) Tannahill; grandchildren, Izzy, Max, Jack, AJ, and Lydia; and other family and friends.

Visitation 5-7 PM, Thursday, March 2, 2017 at Kok Funeral Home, 7676 80th St. S., Cottage Grove, MN, 55016 and continues at church, Friday at 9:30 AM. Funeral Service 10 AM, Friday, March 3, 2017 at All Saint's Lutheran Church, 8100 Belden Blvd., Cottage Grove, MN, 55016. Interment to follow at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
