James W. Melby, 60 of Newport passed away on Wednesday morning, February 18, 2009 following a short illness.
A memorial gathering will be held from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 20, 2009, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Kok Funeral Home, Saint Paul Park, Minnesota. Burial will be at a later date in Newport Cemetery.
James W. Melby was born August 20, 1948 in Saint Paul, the son of Walter O. and Dorothy (Munger) Melby. He was raised in Newport and graduated from Park High School in 1966. He was united in marriage to Eileen Froman and they later divorced. James had worked for many years in sales for Ran Packing in Newport, retiring in 1985. He then was a bartender for a number of years. He especially enjoyed cars and golf.
James is survived by his brother, William of Newport, sister, Karen (Gary) Dueffert of Mendota Heights and a good friend, Deb Osterkamp of St. Paul Park. He was preceded in death by his parents.
