James was born September 9, 1937 in Minneapolis the son of Leon & Cecelia (Christman) Bertrand. He was raised in Minneapolis. On April 30, 1966 he married Charlene Erickson in St. Paul. He was an employee of Twin City Pipe Trades and Plumbers 15. He was a member of Newport Masonic Lodge 118. He loved steam trains; and was a member of Minnesota Transportation Museum and the Mid-Continental Railway Museum in North Freedom Wisconsin.
Survived by daughter Kris (David); nephews.
Preceded in death by wife Charlene, sister Jeanne M. Cummings.
Memorial Service 7 PM Thursday Aug. 4 at KOK FUNERAL HOME, 1201 Portland Ave. St. Paul Park (651-459-2875) with visitation starting at 5:30 PM.
