J.D. “Denny” Graves of Oakdale, MN, formerly of Accokeek, MD died on Wednesday, June 27 of natural causes, following a short illness. He was 86 years old.

During his professional career, he worked at the Naval Radiological Defense Laboratory and Stanford Research Institute in
A charter member of the Alexandria Sertoma Club, he served several terms as an executive officer.
After retiring at the age of 49, he became a master craftsman, skilled in stained glass, slate carving, and woodworking. He built several stringed musical instruments and excelled in antique restoration. He and his beloved Frances toured the country in search of sewing collectibles, many of which Denny restored.
Denny is survived by two daughters from his first marriage, Marsha (Sonny) Warthen of Morgan Hill, CA; and Helen (Frank) Vasquez of Danville, CA.; and three children from his marriage to Frances (now deceased), Chris (Tom) Grondalski of Park City, UT; Nathan (Julie Reid) Graves of Portland, OR; and Mark (Judy) Graves of Cottage Grove, MN. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren.
